Weekend Review

We were able to get half the garden planted this last weekend!  The corn, lettuce and carrots are in!  I'm going to hold off planting our tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers until around May 15th, that apparently is the "safe time" for planting those.  I really hope we get a good crop this year!

The weather was amazing and the girls spent hours and hours playing outside, which I love!  Them tracking  mud and dirt into the house ...I don't love so much.

Haley has read both Sarah, Plain and Tall and the sequel, Skylark recently.  So on Saturday we hit up the library for books and checked out the movies for a family movie night...more like movie weekend.  Saturday night we watched the first one.  Sunday afternoon we watched the second.  

It's been years since I've watched these movies...and years later I still love them!  In Skylark the family endures a major drought and nearly have to leave the farm in search of water.  For most of the movie the family is always dripping with sweat, baking in the sun.  Haley says during the show, "This movie just makes me thirsty!"

Today is in the 70's!!  Just beautiful!  Happy Monday!

Weekend Review

This picture of Piper was actually taken last week, but she's just so darn cute I had to share it.  Also, that's a big mound of snow in our yard!!  

 Friday evening I took the girls skiing.  I think they were a bit on the tired side as Morgan had three spills the very first run we did.  But it was still fun to get out...and, while we were there we got to see my brother, Jeffy, participate in Sundance's Race Series.  What a thrill that was!  And he got third place!

Saturday was yoga and library with the girls while Ryan went for a ride.

That evening we had pizza and movie night!

We watched a Disney Nature film, African Cats.

Something a little different.  Haley is really into African animals right now so this was right up her alley!

And since it was Disney it was really geared toward children.  It didn't show any gruesome scenes of lions tearing up gazelles or little babies getting eaten.  (it did happen, but you didn't see it) And no animals gettin' it on.  So like I said, very kid friendly.

Sunday we churched it up and then watched another movie with our friends.  This movie was part of our Oscar prep. The Pirates! Band of Misfits is up for animated best picture.

And I'm happy to report that the girls really enjoyed this one!  None of them cried or ran out of the room in fear...a happy day for all!

Weekend Review

We had a pretty nice weekend.  

Unfortunately Ryan had to work Saturday, but the girls and I stayed busy that morning making cookies.  It always amazes me the mess we can create when all the girls are in the kitchen!  But the cookies turned out cute and pretty darn good.

As soon as Ryan came home that afternoon I hit slopes.  I was able to meet up with my brother Jeff and skied a couple of hours with him.  Not sure if I mentioned it, but he's a ski instructor at Sundance and a pretty amazing skier.  He's been working with me on my technique...and I will say this...it's really hard to break bad habits!  But I'll get it...eventually.  He's a great teacher!  If you ever want lessons at Sundance, make a special request to get him, Jeff Wilson...you'll be glad you did!  

That evening after the kids were in bed Ryan and I watched Beasts of the Southern Wild.  Another movie up for Best Picture.

Honestly, I wasn't big on it.  Didn't make a whole lot since to me, or perhaps my brain just isn't big enough to understand the deep meaning of it all.  Basically...I didn't like it.  Not my vote for best picture.  Next week we'll try another!

Sunday evening we celebrated Jeff's birthday!

It was fun to have everyone together...and to have an excuse to eat cake!

Weekend Review

Is everyone aware that the Oscars are next month?  Well, it is...February 24 I believe.  Now, as you may already know, I don't get out for movies very often.  In fact the only movie that I've seen that has been nominated is Brave...that's it.  So my friend and I are trying to be a bit more prepared and are doing our "Oscar Homework" now til February 24.  First up...Frankenweenie.  We got our families together Sunday for a combined movie night. 

Unfortunately, this movie scared the crap out of my kids.  Haley managed to sit through it, although she sobbed when Sparky died and covered her face during "scary" scenes...but she insisted to stay to see the end.  Morgan however did not.  I ended up taking her upstairs to play with dolls in another room.  Darn.  Both girls slept on our floor for the night.  Personally, I didn't think it was all that great...a little weird.  But I suppose that's to be expected with a Tim Burton film.

We had a big milestone this weekend!  The girls started skiing on back mountain at Sundance!  It won't be long now and they'll be doing black diamonds!  Now, if I can get them to do more parallel skiing as they are masters of the snow plow!  But goodness, I am so proud of those girls!

In other news the temps are warming up this week!  I think we may even crack 20 finally!

School Pictures and Weekend Review

These two girls are so beautiful...how I love them!  I love how the morning of the pictures they had to find just the right necklace...they accessorize better than their mom!

So the weekend...we hit up the library Saturday in search of the perfect Halloween movie for our movie night that evening.  Thanks to Meg for the Shrek suggestion, it would have been most likely the perfect movie, but unfortunately in was checked out.  Morgan found Monster House (kid friendly...or so it looked) so off we went.  Well, I'm sad to say that Monster House basically scared the crap out of our kids!  It was a bit too much for them and I ended up having to fast forward all the "perilous" or "scary" scenes to prove to them that  in the end everything turned out just fine.  It didn't work...Haley and Morgan both ended up sleeping on our bedroom floor that night.  And the last two nights after that they've both been sleeping in Haley's bed.

Movie night fail.

Sunday the girls had their Primary Program at church.  I'm so proud of them!  They sang along with the others and even memorized their lines when it was their turn at the microphone.  That morning Haley practiced all on her own...she sat on the couch and wrote down all the words that she wanted to make sure she said correctly: baptized, confirmed, example, immersion.  Her little strategy worked as she said everything perfectly!  And little Morgan...all smiles and lots of waving to us.  Such a cutie.

Now I best get to sewing...I have a few more things to do on Haley's costume before the this weekend!  Can't wait to show you!  I'm pretty happy with the way it's turning out!
