Halloween 2017

Monday evening (the night before Halloween) we carved our pumpkins.  It makes me so happy when it's warm enough to carve outside!  And the dogs are happy too because they get a lot the scraps!

I think they turned out pretty good!

And to make things a little extra spooky the girls found a black widow on our porch...lovely.
This is the second black widow that we've had around this house since we moved in...the other was found in my laundry room years ago!!  Yes...pretty scary indeed!  They both met their death by being blasted with ant spray...and then squished for good measure.  Sorry spiders.

This year we have: Lydia Deetz, a dark angel, Dorothy and a cute little witch.

And as for us: Tom Petty (it had to be done this year) and his super fan.

Hope everyone had a great Halloween!!

Halloween 2016

We had another successful Halloween!
Funny how when I was a kid, Halloween came and went, just like that...at least that's what I remember.  Now, for these kiddos, Halloween lasts weeks it seems!  Parties, trunk o' treats, school parades...you name it!  By the time actual Halloween comes you're lucky if their costume isn't rags, ha!  And the make-up (if they have some for their costume) gets simpler every time they have to dress up...I guess they start to lose their patience.

But, as always, the kids love every bit of it!
This year, we have (from oldest to youngest): Cheshire Cat, crazy cat lady, ninja, and a vampire.

Rory got tired of people calling her cute all the time.
She's not cute people!!  She's scary!!

And Ryan and I went as Napoleon and Deb, from Napoleon Dynamite.
But really, lets face it, Ryan stole the show on that one.
However, can I just say that fanny packs rule...so nice having everything (phone, chapstick, vampire teeth) right there, but without a purse hanging off me was kinda nice!

Haley (for the first time) went trick o' treating with friends...gasp!  She's getting so grown up!!!
Ryan took the other kiddos out trick o' treating and they made out like bandits.

And that was that.
Happy Halloween.

Halloween 2015!

I hope everyone had a very spooky and happy Halloween!

This year I decided to go more on the spooky side for my costume.  I recently had been given my grandmother's wedding dress...unfortunately it hadn't been preserved very well...the color is more of a yellow now with many stains and the only thing left of the veil is the headpiece (but the dress has got to be over 65 years old!! So what can you expect?!).  I wish I had a photo of my grandmother in it...the dress was beautiful in it's prime!

But for now...it makes for a fabulous Zombie Bride!
Zombies seem to be all the rage right now...I decided to go with it.
I was pretty proud of my makeup, having NEVER done a zombie look before, I think it came out pretty darn good!  I have to admit, I viewed several zombie tutorials on YouTube first to get my confidence up...thank you YouTube!!  Seriously though, what would we do without YouTube?!!

Ryan was my Zombie Groom...isn't he handsome?
Can I just say...putting makeup on a man is hilarious...they can't keep there eyes still or not squeezed tight to save their life!!  But we got the job done.

The night before Halloween our church hosted a Trunk or Treat party, so this was basically the girls' dress rehearsal for the actual day.
Haley and Morgan were Daphne and Velma from Scooby Doo.  I made Haley's dress (with some help from my mom) so I'm pretty proud of that! I bought Morgan's online (it came with the wig and glasses!)...all I needed to find were the socks and shoes.  Piper and Rory went as Rapunzal and Elsa which worked out great because we already had everything for that, yay!  Piper is holding up a frying pan if you're wondering what she's doing in the photo.  And Rory is blowing a kiss.
A friend took this photo of Ryan and I...Ryan's blank stare cracks me up!

Luckily, the weather was quite nice for trick or treating!
Although now I'm in the mood for some winter storms!

Another Halloween in the books...now onto Thanksgiving!

Halloween Wrap Up

Halloween was a success!  It was a bonus that Halloween landed on a Friday this year!  I'm sure the teachers were grateful for that as well!

Ryan decided to create our scarecrow man this year.  At our old house our porch was super small, so when we put this guy on it the kids had to nearly reach around him to ring the bell.  It scared a lot of little kids and they wouldn't even come onto the porch.  I think they thought there was a person in it and he would jump at them if they came to close.  Hee Hee.  But at this house we can stick him off to the side and I think most people didn't even notice him.
 And here are the girls!
Morgan, a pig.  She loves pigs so much and she insisted that she dressed up as one for Halloween.  The night before Halloween she was nervous about wearing her costume to school because when she told people what she was going to be they laughed.  I explained that they probably don't realize what a pretty pig she was going to be!  The next day, she held her head high (pig nose and all) to school...and sure enough, everyone thought she was cutest pig there ever was!

Haley, a 50's girl.
And the little ones went as Cinderella and Snow White.  They originally wanted to go as Elsa and Ana, but since there was about a gazillion little girls dressed up as them I talked them into the more classic princesses.  They were happy with that!

Ryan took the girls out trick or treating while I stayed back to pass out the candy with this guy.
I love that Jeffy comes to hang out with us every Halloween!  And the weather couldn't have been better!!  We were able to hang out on the porch the entire time the girls were gone...so nice!

Hope everyone had a great Halloween!!

Happy Halloween!

Yesterday we carved our pumpkins.  This was the first time (I'm pretty sure) that we have ever carved them outside while living in Utah.  Weird huh?  It would be great if we can start doing it outside every year!  It's nice not to have pumpkin guts all over everything in the house!

Jeffy and one of Haley's friends joined us.

 Our creations.
Our garden produced quite a few for us (pretty much the only things that were worth anything in our garden this year) and we got four free ones (compliments of our local grocer)...so yeah, we had much carving to do!

Tonight the kids will be running havoc through the streets of our hood...good times.
Full report on that next week!

Happy Halloween ya'll!!

Halloween wrap-up.

Our Halloween was a lot of fun...the kids had a ball and we now have candy up to our eyeballs in this house.  And no, we are not one of those families who get rid of it all the day after Halloween.  It's all about moderation people.  I remember my candy lasting FOREVER when I was a kid and my kids do the same...well, except for Piper.  She would eat her entire bucket of candy in one sitting if she could!  I gotta watch that girl!  So it's not uncommon for my girls to have Halloween candy lasting until after Thanksgiving.

So yeah, back to Halloween.  I walked to pick up the girls from school wearing a little red wig...just wanted to see what kind of reaction I would get from them.  Morgan didn't even notice me standing about 10 feet from her.  When I called out her name she did a double take at me and then said "Mom??  What happened?!"  I pretty much had her believing that it was my real hair....that girl is so gullible!

Side story:  The night we carved our pumpkins, Morgan asked if she could eat one of the seeds raw.  I said sure but she may start growing a pumpkin in her belly!  She decided not to eat it, but was terrified because she ate one earlier.  I told her I was kidding and not to worry.  Later when we were getting the kids to bed Ryan found a pumpkin seed in her hair.  I said, "Oh, wow Morgan!  You are starting to grow pumpkins out of your head!!"  I DID NOT get the "ha ha" reaction I thought I would.  She went into absolute freak out mode!  She truly thought she was growing pumpkins out of her head.  Poor thing.  Bad mommy moment for me.

I should have known, as Morgan has always been that way.  Like the time she was terrified that trees would fall over at the slightest breeze.  Or the time she was convinced that every time she flushed the toilet it was going to clog.  Or the time I told her if she left her mouth wide open a fly would land on her tongue...I think she still believes that one will happen.  Oh my Morgan...how we love that girl!

Okay, seriously, back to Halloween.
My lovely, red wig.

Jeffy, excuse me Richie Tenenbaum hung out with me while I passed out candy...which turned out to be all of 10 kids (it seemed anyway).  It's tradition that Ryan takes the kids out trick or treating...and they always cover some serious ground!

I pretty much failed at getting pictures of the girls.  But they looked exactly the way they did on the night of our trunk or treat...cute!  And Rory even wore her cheese outfit (minus the hat) willingly!  It think she discovered that if she put that thing on she would be given candy...smart girl.

Piper's turn with the wig...what a doll!

Hope ya'll have a great weekend!

Pumpkins

Yesterday was a super blustery day!  Not cold at all, just really windy...which means one thing...a storm is coming!  And coming it did, as we woke up to rain today and snow in the mountains!

Piper and Rory playing in the leaves.
Ryan left for CO early this morning (he'll be back in time for Halloween) so last night we knocked out our pumpkin carving.  It was good, messy, fun!

Now, I think we're all ready for Halloween!

Weekend Review: Good times and not so good times.

Saturday I hit up yoga in the morning and by the time I got home I wasn't feeling so good.  I didn't have any appetite and had to lay down when Rory was napping.  After a little shut eye I felt a lot better and cranked out the rest of the girls' costumes for our church trunk or treat that night.  As for me...the viking costume got pulled out again.

What do you think?  Am I close to pulling off Largertha's look?
I had to get a close up of my hair.  I thought it was pretty poofy, but now seeing the real Largertha I could have gone much bigger!

I think the girls' costumes came out pretty darn good!!
And they loved them...well, except for Rory.
Dog, Cat, Mouse, and Cheese.
Rory absolutely hated her costume and pretty much refused to wear it.  Darn.

The Trunk or Treat was a lot of fun!  Oh, and Ryan went as Zorro, but somehow he managed to escape any photos!

Later that evening I wasn't feeling so good again...and yep, I launched later that night.  What the heck?!  How is it that I get sick before a kid does?!  So weird.  I hope it was just a random illness and everyone else will be spared...please!  Anyway, whatever it was, it was short lived because I felt much better the next day!  I know you are very glad I shared that with you.  And no, I'm not pregnant...because I know that's what you were all thinking!

Anyway, in other news...on Sunday Piper learned how to ride her two wheel!!  It didn't take her any time at all and she absolutely loves it!  It was getting late and she would NOT stop and come inside for dinner.  We finally bribed her with some candy.  I know, kinda messed up...but we were getting desperate!

Happy Monday!

Happy Halloween!

This morning the girls put on their costumes and headed off to school.  Ryan and I will watch them in their school Halloween parade this afternoon.  And then we'll  watch them impatiently wait for it to get dark so they can go trick or treating.

Here are some photos of our pumpkin carving.  Some friends joined us for the occasion...it made for a very nice evening.
