Cyclocross 2016

Another season of cyclocross has come to end.

I decided to just compile a bunch of pictures from all the races...I started to try to get them order, but then that was taking me forever...so here they are in no real particular order.

Morgan, Piper and Rory consistently participated in the kid's races.  It's a shorter lap (or two) for all the little ones to get their taste at cross, and they always have fun prizes at the end for them.

(Haley isn't really into cyclocross, so she's kinda MIA in these photos.  I think she prefers having a quiet house all to herself while we're gone, ha!  But for the record she did come to several races to cheer her sisters and dad on.)

 This year Morgan decided to up the challenge, and do the highschool group as well.

30 minutes of hard racing.  I'm super proud of her as I know cross is NOT easy!  But she stuck it out and finished every one that she started!

Ryan would ride with Morgan in the high school race, giving her some encouragement along the way, and then he would race his own race right after.

Labor Day Weekend

We kicked off Labor Day weekend with the Ft. Bridger Mountain Man Rendezvous on Saturday.  We've been going for a few years now, so it has become a bit of a tradition for the girls to get dressed up in pre 1840 garb and really embrace the whole experience!  And just like years before Morgan stayed for the weekend with our friends (their daughter and Morgan are little besties).  It's always so hard to say goodbye to her and I always worry if she's warm enough at night...but she always has a ball and loves every minute of it!

Sunday we kept with our normal routine of Sundance Sundays.  This time we packed a picnic dinner and stayed through the evening to watch the outdoor band play.  And it just so happened that a few of our neighbors had the same idea so the girls played all evening, running around the field with their friends.  And I must say...the evenings are getting a bit chillier...Fall is definitely in the air!

Because we didn't get enough of Sundance on Sunday, we decided to go up again Monday to do some mountain biking.  Haley was excited to give it go, so my dad and I took her out on the trails.

Haley is riding my old mountain bike...she loves it!  And I'm happy to report that she had a good time riding as well.  She only had one big spill into the bushes...not too bad.  I'm hoping next weekend we can get both Haley and Morgan out there!

That evening for Labor Day we had a fabulous BBQ at my parents house.  And later that evening our little Morgan came home...happy and very, very dirty!

Then on Tuesday (I know it's not the weekend anymore...but whatever) the cross season started!  So that evening (even though he doesn't have a cross bike and had to ride his mountain bike) Ryan raced.  And it wouldn't have been complete without Taco Tuesday right after! 

We're hanging on to summer for as long as possible!!

Tuesday Cross

 The seasons are changing, and so are our sports.  We went from Ryan's road and my mountain biking to now cross.  Although, I think the weekly cross series will be coming to an end in a couple of weeks too and then...you guessed it...it will be time for skiing!!

So yeah, we have a local weekly cross race every Tuesday.  And when I say local I mean likes minutes from our home...and one venue is less than a mile from our house!

And since the cross racing is every Tuesday it just so happens to work out perfectly to grab some taco Tuesday at our favorite local taco place.  Pretty nice when we can feed a family of six for under 20 bucks.

Everyday Life

During the Summer our Wednesday nights consisted of the weekly mountain bike series...and now, our Fall Wednesday nights consists of the P-Town Cross race series where we cheer on Ryan.  I hand it to people who do cross, it's tough!  I definitely prefer mountain biking!  The weather has been quite nice, and there's a park right next to the course so it's pretty nice to watch the race and watch the kids at the same time.  

It's that time of year again!

I've been sewing up a few (very simple) pieces for the girls costumes...hopefully they turn out okay.

I've been working with a lot of fake fur...it looks like a cat has a very serious shedding problem in my craft room!  Fur is EVERYWHERE!

These two have been keeping me busy in the day.

 Piper has always been my more mischievous child.  Just today she watched Tangled and has soon as it was over she insisted that I cut her hair.  She had a pretty big fit when I told her I wouldn't do it.  After a while she calmed down and then very sweetly said, "I'm going downstairs to play".  Hmmmm...sounded like she was up to something so I secretly followed her.  Sure enough, she crept into the craft room and got a pair of scissors.  As she turned around she jumped when she saw me standing in the doorway.  I didn't even have to say anything...she dropped the scissors, burst into tears and ran to her room.  I just can't imagine what she would have done to her hair had I not been there.

And then later this afternoon as I vacuuming upstairs she got upset because I wouldn't let her play in the front yard alone.  After much screaming and crying she quietly goes downstairs.  I asked where she was going, and she said "Oh, I'm just going to lay on the couch."  Hmmmm, yeah right!  She thinks I'm not paying attention...but I watch her (without her knowing) and sure enough she creeps out the front door.  But this time she pulls Rory into it!  When I go grab her she tries to blame it on her!!  Nice try!

You gotta watch that girl!

This weekend we have Trick-or-Treating at the shops near our house and Trunk-o-Treat at our church.  A little "dress rehearsal" for the actual Halloween night!

P-Town Cross and Survivor

We have shifted gears from mountain biking to cross racing this month.  So for the next several weeks we'll be loading up the family every Wednesday to watch Ryan race at the P-Town Cross series.  Last week we brought the girls' bikes so they could do the kids race.  Haley was able to try out her new cross bike!

In other news...today is the Survivor: Blood vs. Water premiere.

Ryan and I do like ourselves a good Survivor series...and it's even better when there is someone we know on the show!  Our friend Tyson Apostle is back on it for the third time!!

Come on Tyson...I think it's about time you win it!!

So you know what we'll be watching every week!  But unfortunately, I don't have normal TV so I will be watching the premiere on Thursday on CBS.  So don't be spilling the beans and telling me everything that happens before I get a chance to see it!!

A few things.

Wednesday night cross.  Can you find Haley and Morgan?  Ryan and Piper are in there too!

What's going on around here?

*  Remember when I quit coffee?  Yeah...I'm still going strong...no worries there.  In fact, I never thought I would ever say this, but I think I feel better since I quit!  I don't ever have icky stomach like I used to or the dreaded coffee gut... so that's good.  I also now have quite the array of hot chocolate choices in my pantry (dark, sugar free, pumpkin spice) yeah, I've become a bit of a connoisseur of hot chocolate.  I don't drink it every morning (otherwise I would definitely start packing on the pounds if I did), but every so often it does make a nice morning a bit sweeter.  

*  Our Internet is being screwy.  We do not have TV...well, we do, but it's only function is to play a DVD.  So in the evenings when Ryan and I want to watch a little something we rely on his laptop and use Hulu to watch some normal network shows.  But...unfortunately, our wireless modem is being weird so we've had to use the desktop to watch anything.  So in desperation in wanting to be comfortable we've started dragging our sofa across the room in front of the computer (luckily, it's a very light sofa).  What's worse is that in the middle of the show the screen will go to to sleep and one of us will have to leap up to wiggle the mouse before we miss part of the show.  It's a little silly...but it's only temporary.  I'm pretty sure we'll get a good laugh about this one day.

*  Piper has been putting up quite the fight when it come to sleeping lately.  She spent two hours last night screaming and crying wanting to get up for the day.  Her screaming results in Rory screaming, and then it's all over from there.  I rock one kid to sleep, then the other, and then I have about 5 minutes of quiet until Piper starts the whole process over again.  Ryan and I had to tag team it last night...but it was definitely a losing battle (we were losing).  These are the hard moments you get when you have two kids sharing a room.  

*  Fall has arrived!  Crisp weather is upon us...and I'm kinda excited about it!  I'm excited to change up my cooking (more comfort foods!!) and do more baking.  Something about when it's cold out, I get the urge to either bake cookies or make bread.  And I love, love having dinners cooking in the oven all day or simmering on the stove.  It's the perfect recipe for a cozy house!

For the weekend...I'm thinking a family movie night is in order.  Perhaps a Halloween movie??  Although that's a tricky one with my girls as they get scared very easily!  Also this weekend Haley and Morgan have their Primary program at church which I'm very excited about!  I missed it last year because of crummy bed rest.    

Little something extra:

Haley is going to be a gypsy for Halloween and when people ask her what a gypsy is, she always answers, "It's a woman who dances for money."  I can't help but laugh every time.

Family Cross Night

Haley, Morgan, Ryan and I entered the P-Town Cross Race last night.  My folks came out too!  They were able to keep an eye on my kids since Ryan and I raced at the same time.  

I must say, I was on the fence about racing since my bike isn't in the best of shape...nor am I.  But in the end I'm glad I did it!  I'm really not very good at all, and the other two women that were there lapped me pretty quickly...but, I did have fun.  

My dismounts were a bit of awful and I had a close encounter with a tree...but in the end I survived.

I'm sure I'll be out there again.

The kids race was pretty hilarious.  I don't think one kid out there knew where they were supposed to go, but they all had smiles on their faces and seemed to be having a blast.
